Department of Geosciences records, 1900-1980.

The collections consists of the files of the Department of Geology and its faculty. Materials include financial reports of the department, correspondence and personal papers of professors, and student grade lists. Frequent topics in the files are the Geology Library and undergraduate and graduate curriculum matters. Also included in the collection are as well as an LP of recorded lectures produced for high school students, and two photo albums documenting some of the Department's summer research expeditions. Researchers interested in these materials may wish to consult the Princeton Scientific Expeditions Collection (AC012).

The Department of Geology was founded in 1904 at Princeton University, with an initial faculty of six professors. The department moved into its home in Guyot Hall in 1909, a facility that also housed the department's growing Natural History Museum. Under the tenure of chairman Harry H.
